BASF

Process Innovation

Issue: Due to the economic crisis and rising competition from Asia, the current chemical industry is under considerable strain.

The Goal: Utilizing process innovation to reduce the cost of BASF’s large-scale plants.

Results: SIT worked with BASF to reduce the costs of their large-scale plants.  The project took into consideration various aspects of plant production, such as the chemical process itself, the functional level of the plant, and the devices produced.

Originally, BASF considered reducing the amount spent on investing in new plants by 25%. However, using SIT’s methods, they were able to radically challenge existing processes and combine ideas to reach a 30% reduction in variable cost and a 10% reduction in fixed cost for their large-scale chemical plants.
